Our internet comes out in the US, so we get lots of ads like this one on our web pages.

There are quite a few of them out there, they all follow the same pattern. They don’t actually say anything negative, they just suggest negative things about him. Just asking questions. They imply he’s to blame for just about everything from the recession, racial relations, terrorism, etc.

Its like that episode of South Park where Cartman makes libelous comments about a girl at school, but ends every line with a question mark. “Wendy is a slut. Or is she? I’m simply asking questions.” The episodes goes from him doing morning announcements to the school to him being a Glenn Beck character on Fox News.

There is one ad that I’ll have to find where its Obama (possibly after he’s just sneezed) looking quite angry, his mouth twisted, and the one like is: “Is Obama playing the race card?”.

The Scheme

I watched The Scheme when it was first broadcast, but they only showed the first two episodes. The other episodes were postponed for legal reasons around one of the main subject of the show. Since then next episode has been leaked on the internet by a ‘teen’.

I find The Scheme pretty powerful. Its a reflection of real life dramas for a lot of people and its so depressing. It makes me think about growing up in The Pans and knowing people like this, the junkies, the well known faces breaking in to houses or shops to fund drug habits, the shit housing, anti social behaviour of people that just don’t give a fuck. I’m watching these episodes and the majority of the main characters don’t work. It makes you wonder how we got to this stage and what can be done about it. The fact that these scenes are repeated across Scotland and the rest of the UK is just bewildering.

Recession Inspired Music

I put my iPod on shuffle the other day and got Simply Red – ‘Money’s Too Tight (To Mention)’ and made me think about when that song was released. It was topical when unemployment was so high in the mid 1980s. I suppose UB40 were made popular due to their name at the time also.

I got me wondering if the recession/depression/austerity we’re going through would throw up any iconic bands or songs. Or even a new type of music, surely we’ll at least see the back of cunts like Hannah Montana and Justin Beiber.

I heard on Radio 5, someone said that Hannah Montana had create the ‘whatever’ generation. Its true. Look at this typical example.

Missing The Fringe

This is a nightmare. The closest I’m getting to the Fringe this year is convincing myself that I’ve seen that many good shows in the past I can afford to take a break. I’m convincing myself that maybe none of the acts I would chose to go and see would be the good ones – a series of bad choices perhaps. Or convince myself that the weather is shit, but I can see on the webcam that its been pretty decent.

If you’ve ever had to fanny about with a PDF file then this is very helpful website. Instead of installing some application on your PC, you can use this over the web so its pretty simple. I always seem to download PDF files and need to fill them in by hand, when I’d rather type them. Using this site, you can type onto the PDF and then download it.

Holland/Netherlands

Using Holland and Netherlands interchangeably is incorrect. Its been compared to referring to the UK and England, but when you look at the make up of the Netherlands, its more incorrect that I had previously thought. There are 12 lands in the Netherlands, only 2 are Holland.
